You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I purchased a preneed contract for $2895 and was told that would be all I had to pay. I have paid over $1000 and I get a letter stating that I have to pay over $5000! This is not a Christian company! They are extremely misleading to lure people in. No one I have spoken with has helped in any way. Do not trust funeral directors life! They are extremely misleading about the prearranged service!”

“I prepaid my cremation by check in the amount of $2622.08. Somehow they submitted it to PNC bank for $7622.08. They said it would take 20 days to get my money back. Will yhey have moved? Do banks just pay any amount if done electronically? Why couldn't these people fix it BEFORE it cleared. Ripoffs.”

“Employees do not have proper training and are NOT all knowledgeable. An employee stated that I could pay ahead on my account and thus, I paid an extra month. The employee stated I would not have to pay my automatic payment in January because I paid ahead in November/December. My account was still pulled as if I had never paid ahead. Calling customer service they stated that “yes, you can pay ahead and that I can skip an automatic payment when I do this, but that there were ZERO notes in my file stating I had paid ahead.”. This was completely unacceptable to me as the employee I spoke with prior had STATED that I had paid ahead and that they would put a note in my file. I am now dealing with overdraft fees with my bank and now owe money I never needed to because of an FDLIC employees mess up. NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL! - This FDLIC account is great, but I am severely not impressed with the employees who work here.”
