You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“My family could not be more pleased with the services Pagenkopf provided to my family leading up to and during my mother's recent funeral service. Although I know there was a whole team at Pagenkopf behind them, Kevin and Liv were especially patient, kind, and compassionate towards us. Every detail was beautiful and we were truly taken back by how easy they made this process for us. The new building is beautiful and the team was fantastic to work with during this difficult time.”

“This review is for the pet cremation services of Pagenkopf. My wife and I recently required the services of pet cremation to help us with taking care of our old, sweet girl, Maple who we had to say goodbye to on Sunday, September 29th. There are surprisingly few places in SE WI that can perform this service and was always a point of stress knowing our dog was very old and we were set on cremation. I want to thank Pagenkopf for adding this service somewhat recently. A few items we want to express additional appreciation for was answering the phone on a Sunday morning and working with us to pick up our girl's body from WVRC, which wasn't a normal vet they work with, and schedule the service without delay. The staff was very kind, caring, and accommodating. I have nothing negative to say about the experience other than the fact we had to experience this at all. Thank you again. RIP maple 2007-2024.”

“When my father was sent to hospice, I reached out to Pagenkopf Funeral Home for guidance. From that first phone call on through my dad’s burial, the staff was knowledgeable and comforting. When I had questions, they got back to me right away. They were supportive and flexible - making sure that our wishes were met. They were upfront about the different options and costs. They recommended Wes Werner as our clergy and we couldn’t have been happier. He was just a wonderful person to work with and really got to know who my dad was before the service. Pagenkopf helped turn a sad day into a beautiful one, and for that I will be forever grateful.”
