You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“From start to finish, this funeral home was truly outstanding. The staff was professional, compassionate, and handled every detail with care and respect. During such a difficult time, they made the entire process smooth and comforting. Everything was beautifully done and exceeded our expectations. We are deeply grateful for their kindness and professionalism and highly recommend their services. My dad looked so good! The funeral home staff orchestrated and made all the necessary arrangements so we could have food and a place for the repast.”

“Belicia and her staff at Coleman & Hicks Funeral Home are simply amazing! They made a very difficult time in our lives worry-free for my siblings and me. The entire planning process and service provided dignity and class, just what our mom deserved. From the first conversation to the final ride, the level of compassion and service that Belicia and Chandra provided surpassed all expectations. They were skilled, meticulous and thorough. They were attentive to our needs as a family – and we were made to feel we were their most important priority. They were patient when we were reminded of a touching memory, understanding when we were overcome with grief and helpful as we edited and re-edited obituary details. More importantly, our mother looked absolutely beautiful as she was laid to rest. We highly recommend Coleman & Hicks Funeral Home to anyone needing services to celebrate the life of a loved one.”

“Bellisa lied to us about the day they would cremate my father( he was not embalmed) I know it's a business & she may have ben busy at that time but then you should say that. i specifically asked when he would be cremated & was told it was gonna be handled that day or the next day. if I would have known that my dad was gonna be sitting around for over a week (FYI: funeral homes do not refrigerate bodies they embalm them Or they have them sitting in a back room decomposing until they are cremated) then I would have went somewhere else....the thought of my dad's body sitting around rotting for over a week still haunts me.”
