You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“We are deeply grateful for the compassion, professionalism, and steady guidance the Neptune Society provided during one of the hardest moments our family has faced. They managed my mother-in-law’s arrangements—including the complexities of a military, out-of-state interment—with exceptional care and precision. What could have been overwhelming was handled smoothly, respectfully, and with clear communication throughout. We always knew what to expect and never felt rushed or dismissed. What truly sets the Neptune Society apart is that their care continues after the services. Their ongoing check-ins and after-care mental health and grief support meant more to our family than we can adequately express. In times of loss, having people you can fully trust matters. I would recommend the Neptune Society without hesitation to any family seeking dignity, compassion, and true expertise.”

“Kelsey & her team were exceptional in helping me navigate a rather sudden and overwhelming emotional task with becoming an Executor of my friend's estate. Kelsey immediately jumped into action and reached out to, I believe, the Tuscon site for assistance/direction needed to process my tasks at hand. Fast forward 5 weeks and sadly my friend passed away. From the time I received the call from the transport services, to my meeting with Kelsey 2 days later, Neptune staff could not have been more kind, supportive and understanding. She stayed late for our appointment, as I was coming from the airport and somewhat challenged with time. Upon arriving to my appointment with Kelsey, she was so incredibly empathetic and supportive. I arrived later than expected, I was aware she would have to stay a little longer than normal business hours and yet she started our dialogue with a very open ended question about my loved one who passed. She allowed me all the time I needed to share information about my loved one and wanted to have a better idea of who she was versus her cause of death and staying focused on the contract logistics. This support was so incredibly comforting to me during a rather emotional upheaval from my loved one's sudden passing. I left my loved one 3 days prior to her passing and honestly believed she would make it for my next visit in 2 weeks. I was back on a plane less than 24 hours after hearing the news of her passing. Kelsey's exceptional empathy, support and acute knowledge of death, dying, and stages of grief allowed her to engage in a way that truly allowed me time to take a breath and begin to process the gravity of the loss. She "turned off the mechanics of making arrangements for a cremation" to "the art of making arrangements with compassion, empathy and a genuine interest in the loved one who passed". Up until this point, this alone warrants a 5 star review for Kelsey and the staff at this location.....but the exceptional service didn't stop. During my two weeks back home, Kelsey continued to follow-up with updates on my loved one's arrangements. She continued to identify and initiate offerings for additional assistance with my return back to town. My loved one was cremated and her remains were shipped to CA (all handed beautifully by Kelsey and her staff). I pre-paid for certified copies of death certificates, however, upon Kelsey contacting me with confirmation of their arrival, she remembered possible scheduling conflicts with the delivery of the certificates and my return back to AZ. Once again, Kelsey was exceptional and arranged to have the certificates waiting for me in the office upon my arriving back in town. She attempted to get a refund check issued, but it would be a few more days to arrive. 2 days later I was notified the check was available for pick-up at the front desk. I also learned Kelsey was in a mandatory training out of state, but continued follow up to have my check available prior to my leaving town again. One can imagine how ever so HAPPY I was to see Kelsey when I finally arrived to pick up the check. I was a day late and she just returned back from her out of state training. It truly was a full circle moment to have her hand me the refund check. From where we started seven weeks prior and knowing the "contractual services" were finished, I did not expect for Kelsey to insist on handing me the refund personally. Once again, exceptional in all facets of Kelsey's commitment to a much more personalized approach to service delivery. Most aspects associated with death can be isolating, mainly from the average person really not knowing what to say and fear of saying or doing the wrong thing. Kelsey's innate ability to immediately engage with genuine empathy and interest about my loved one's life left me feeling connected and supported.”

“The Neptune Society team has been very gracious and helpful in my time of loss. Having never went through this experience before, they made it as bearable as possible. I highly recommend them for any aftercare needs. They were excellent on the worst day of my life, when I needed compassion the most. I deeply appreciate them and their caring.”
