You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Corey and his team did a fabulous job with my mother’s funeral. During times like this it is so necessary to know that things are being taken care of seamlessly. Barber Memorial Home was there to help us create a beautiful tribute to my mother and we are forever grateful.”

“In the last 2 months, our family has used Barber Memorial Home to help us say goodbye to our father and mother. Corey is a very professional funeral director, compassionately taking care of every detail. When our father passed away, he paid close attention to our mom and took care of what she wanted. Nine weeks later, we were back with Corey planning our mother’s funeral. Once again, Corey took care of everything. The calling hours and funerals for both of our parents were held away from the funeral home in a local church. Corey worked well with the church staff to accommodate the family’s requests. He offered the idea of a Livestream of the services. We agreed that we would like that and we were extremely pleased that we did. Family and friends loved being able to be a part of the services. Corey did an exceptional job taking care of our parents’ funerals and tending to the needs of our family during these difficult days.”

“Our family would like to commend and thank everyone at Barber with whom we interacted - those who answered our calls, those behind the scenes who made everything easy for us, and most of all, Tim and Corey. Despite our many calls and requests, you always made us feel like we were top priority, and we were assured that Dad was in good hands to receive the utmost care. We especially want to call out Tim who was there for us many times for our questions, always reaching out to us if clarification was needed and the comfort and support of your presence at the gravesite. Your kindness will not be forgotten, as well as your patience, empathy, professionalism, and expertise. Tim, you said that it was an honor; we too, feel it was an honor that you were there to assist us. Thank you for making a very difficult time manageable.”
