You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“My brother arranged his own funeral. When we contacted Perches every single person we spoke with were very professional, compassionate, respectful and kind to all of the family. The facilities are clean and well taken care off. They make sure all of our brother's wishes and our request were met. I am sorry, I forgot the name of the gentleman that was in charge, he spoke beautiful words to us at the end of the viewing day. Thank you so much!”

“Please read before investing your hard earned money into Perches Funeral homes. Our family has been deeply affected by this company and their unforgivable inhumane treatment in our grief. I have never encountered a business that treats customers like this let alone during such a hard time. My mother in law prepaid for Perches to handle her last wishes so we had to deal with the consequences but if you are considering them for yours, please reconsider. From the beginning Michelle the funeral home director was cold and unempathetic like she was trying to sell us a used car. We were also told we would have to pay over $1000 to say goodbye to our loved one. Maybe because we declined, we were treated horribly going forward. Once we did not hear from Perches for over a week about our paperwork, we called to find out what the status was. They said the paperwork still needed to be filed by the director. As more time went on and we called to get an update (because what else are we supposed to do when you are waiting to make memorial arrangements) the receptionist would answer the phone rudely "you dont need to call, we will call you" she said. Eventually they said they were waiting on a signature on paperwork we were never sent and then still did not send for days after we asked again. After almost a month of waiting, we had to fly back home so we called to ask about the status of the cremation remains. The receptionist said she didn't know the status and that the funeral home director would have to call us back. We let them know we had to fly out and someone else would need to pick up the urn. A week later they called to tell us that the urn had been ready for over a week since before we flew out and why hadn't we picked it up. Unbelievably inconsiderate business that should not exist. This is a sensitive situation people are in when they are dealing with them. I hope they go out of business because I do not want to see other families suffer like we did while we were trying to grieve and pay our respects to our loved one.”

“This was the worst place to have my father’s cremation done! I’m writing this on my phone so I won’t go into too much detail but good God they should be ashamed of themselves. They were so disorganized and we didn’t get things we asked for like a registry, keepsakes, crosses, no obituary posted ok their site as promised. The customer service was miserable too. We had two previous funerals there and those were fine but this time around so disappointing to the point I was honestly worried if we’d receive our loved one’s ashes or not. Next time I’m using a different funeral home I don’t care how affordable this place seems.”
