You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Bishop Funeral Home and their director, Steve, were absolutely wonderful and comforting during our loss of my grandmother. They were always accommodating and organized. They were extremely respectful and compassionate and helpful in answering several unknown questions we had regarding my grandmother’s wishes, due to the fact that she had already planned her last wishes over 10 years prior to her unexpected passing. Steve worked with me as if I were sitting right in front of him, even though I was over several states away. He remembered sitting with and talking to my grandmother and he talked about her as if he had only seen her yesterday and remembered so many wonderful things about her which gave me warmth and trust in my heart. He explained everything, in terms of what my grandmother had planned, costs (very affordable), details of how they would transfer her and her belongings from an out of town hospital to the funeral home, preparation of her earthly body, preparing and personally arranging her burial which were also out of town. He explained several options for mementos, announcements and setting up a website in memory of my grandmother that was very personalized and beyond beautiful! I felt as if I was speaking to a favorite uncle about my grandmother’s wishes, our families wishes, and at no point did I feel pressured to purchase more than what we needed or wanted. Steve offered us several things at no additional costs, out of compassion. His administrative assistant was a wonderful asset to us with her warm and friendly demeanor and promptness. They also kept in contact with me several months after working with us to insure that we were doing well and which was unexpected and very touching and appreciated! Death is a painful, confusing and difficult process to go through, especially, when things need to be arranged from out of state. However, Bishop Funeral Home made everything seamless, orderly, beautiful and affordable. I would highly recommend them to anyone who has to go through this journey.”

“I truly appreciate the effort that the staff of Bishops recently gave with the assistance of my mother’s, Imogene Dismuke, funeral. They were so kind, supportive and caring throughout the whole process. From the time they came to the house to get my mother until the time we laid her to rest. My family and I have entrusted Steve and other members of Bishops with several of our family. Two of my Uncles, one of my Aunts along with my Dad which they handled all with care and respect. I would just like to take this time to say thank you. In the future if I need assistance with a family member I will definitely trust Bishops to help. Again thank you Steve and all the other staff.
