You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I cannot say enough good things about New Orleans Funeral & Cremation Service. Losing my dad was incredibly difficult, but Ms. Lillie and Ms. Tracy made the entire cremation process as smooth and comforting as possible. Their kindness, compassion, and professionalism were truly a blessing during such a challenging time. They guided us with care, answering every question with patience and ensuring every detail was handled with respect. If you’re looking for a team that genuinely cares and goes above and beyond, I wholeheartedly recommend New Orleans Funeral & Cremation Service.”

“I would honestly give them zero stars, but Google won’t let me. I waited over a month and a half for my wife to be cremated. And it was three months before I got a death certificate. Every time I called him, they had excuses. Especially the owner, Gary. He blamed every single person he could other than him or his staff. I have reported Gary to the Louisiana embalmers and funeral directors board. And I encourage others who have had the same terrible experience to do the same. And on a sidenote: This company is often seen flying banners behind planes, offering sales on cremation. Does it get any lower? Ps: And Gary, I don’t need a response back from you on this either.”

“From my very first interaction, I was treated with compassion and professionalism. The staff was absolutely amazing. The hospice company held up the process for receiving my father's remains, but the manager and owner went above and beyond to ensure that his urn was available for his services. The manager drove to my home on a Saturday to deliver it! And the front desk lady was so friendly and welcoming. The facilities were immaculate and beautiful. I would highly recommend them to anyone in need of their services. The entire experience was handled so graciously. Thank you for all that you do!”
