You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Absolutely awful service! They returned my fiancé and my mother-in-laws son in a ziplock plastic bag, not the thick double ply bag no zip tie was used no label stating who was in the bag/urn. When we called them they denied doing him that way. We asked them how our loved one would be handled and they told us the proper way a cremation is suppose to take place, not the way our loved one was returned. They treat your loved one horrible, with no dignity or respect! They have zero over the phone professionalism, basically feed you lies to get your money and they will hang up on you and tell you they have no time for you! Look elsewhere when choosing a crematory for your loved one not MCM!”

“I own and operate a funeral home in Red Lion, PA and recently worked with a family locally who had a loved one pass in TN. I was referred to the Music City Mortuary by the local ME in Tennessee. The professionalism over the phone/email, promptness with getting documents to me and expertise with the embalming is top notch. Anna was wonderful to work with - very kind and professional! If I am ever in need of assistance with another service out of state, I will most certainly be calling them again.”

“Would not. Recommend! High volume Non. Personable service mainly contracted by. Funeral homes to handle their embalming, shipping, removals and cremations. Not a personalized Firm where you know your director and who is caring for your loved one ! Facility not in a very desirable area of Nashville! More like a warehouse in a commercial area near the cities railroad yard!”
