You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“So our turn finally rolled around to plan for our funeral arrangements. We wanted to do exactly what my parents did for my sister and me. They had pre-planned and paid for all of their services. When they passed, we didn’t have to do anything other than pick out the flowers. Everything was done. So we just did that with the guidance and help of Tom Harris and his team. It couldn't have been easier and now we have beautiful plots in a gorgeous location. Everything has been planned and paid for. I can't stress the importance of taking this burden off of your family. Do it now ... while you can. There will be no regrets and nothing but peace of mind. Thank you Tom! You're the best!”

“Very beautiful cemetery that appears to be properly taken care of. Talked some with Evan about the plots available, but still have not purchased one due to the higher prices, but it is a beautiful place to die for.”

“The team at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn did a wonderful job with my grandfather's funeral. From the moment I arrived they had every detail under control. I was promptly greated by Bill at the door. Robin managed everything perfectly. She even dealt with a catering issue that I later found out about without impacting our family and ensuring the day was free of stress. When thrown a curveball about audio-visual needs day of, Ryan managed to quickly find a solution to accommodate my cousin's music. Ryan also exemplified himself by noticing my mother having difficulty swallowing and quickly brought her a cold water which alleviated her issue. Tristan and Joe were extremely helpful with all the little things (cards, coins, guest book, etc.) that drove perfection that day. As a final special touch, Bill added Navy markings to the hearse to recognize my grandfather's military service. The attention to detail by this team helped my family say goodbye to our grandfather without additional worry or concern. Thank you all.”
