You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Absolutely stellar people that are truly there when you need them. We lost our little pug boy Mochi. Like anyone reading this, your pet is your kid. There are studies showing the bond between pet and human can actually be even stronger than that of a child. So when the time comes and they must leave us, we as humans need to process it and grieve. Society does not even give us a day off for this, let alone a forum and period of grief that humans normally express through the funeral and other ceremonies. Those are important, but equally important is something that can help give us closure with the loss of a pet, and that is where Mission comes in. We brought our boy in after he had to be put down at the vet. The incredible staff stayed late and was there for us with a smile and love from the moment we walked in the door. They had a vey nice cardboard white box with a nice lining that served as a small way of sending off our boy in a fitting manner for someone we loved so much. They have Sharpie pens you can write with on the box, and I told him to wait and please come when called when I see him again (yeah I know, silly but I can't say how much better it made me feel to be able to write that). But we were able to sit with him by ourselves for as long as we wanted, in a quiet place with plenty of tissues where we could just grieve. And then we shifted back to the parlor and were consoled yet uplifted with one of the finest humans I have ever met. Again, the staff is just a 10 out of 10, period. Even could get in a little humor and smiles from us between the tears, and she expertly (with a given natural ability I wish more people had ) threaded the needle of grieving yet celebrating our boy's life. At NO point do you feel rushed. At NO point are you trying to be upsold. It is just a wonderful personable and cozy environment to step into after one of the worst moments in life. Of course they need to keep the lights on and it is ultimately a business, but it is very surprisingly affordable and a truly priceless service that is much needed for many of us. In life I know I will see these folks probably a few more times on some of my worst days, but I also know that walking out the door I will feel a bit of positivity and celebration of the life of my loved furry kids. Thank you Mission Pet Memorials for being there for us in our worst of times, and I thank you for helping us with an important step in our grieving process.”

“Mission Pet Memorials staff and services were outstanding! Both Michelle and Catlin were compassionate, caring and very helpful. This a second time when I used their service, and even though it's never easy to lose your pet, the Mission Pet Memorials makes the grieving process bit easier. I would like to thank the entire MPM team for bringing comfort to our family after we lost Bobo.”

“My dog passed on a Saturday. I was in desperate need of to find a caring and reputable crematorium. I couldn’t get anyone to see me on a Saturday until I called Mission. They could see me right away and were so loving and caring. Their process was easy and made me feel very comfortable. I’m truly grateful for them. I highly recommend them. They gave me peace of mind at one of the saddest times in my life. I could not ask for more than that.”
