You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I would like to amend my review. All of my past dealings with Crowder Funeral Home Pearland, specifically Mark Crowder, have been for cremation services. Today, December 11th 2025, I was in attendance at my first "full blown" police officer's funeral service. Mark played a crucial role in this service, from the beginning to the end. It was a beautiful and honorable tribute to the officer and I witnessed Mark in a whole new light. He was extremely professional and honored the deceased and the family in a way that gave me a new perspective on him and a higher level of respect. Thank you sir. The following is my original post, after the passing of our son. In a good and sad kind of way, I know the phone number to this Funeral Home by heart. The entire staff is friendly and kind and supportive. Mark Crowder is a very down-to-earth kind of man. He is easy to talk to and he explains things very clearly and makes you feel confident and comfortable. Him and his staff's main goal is to treat you with the utmost respect - for your deceased loved ones and you and your family. They have been there for me and my family many times and I hope they know how much they are valued and appreciated. No need to shop around. I've already done all of that work for you. Give them a call and you will see how trustworthy and caring they are.”

“It took me a while , but really want to take a moment to give my sincere thanks and gratitude to the entire staff at Crowder Funeral Home in Pearland, Texas. Everyone from the front desk, assistant and all the staff to our friend Mark Crowder (funeral director) who graciously took his time with me through this truly unbearable process. Didn't have any idea how this process work and Mark, you and your staff were so attentive to the needs and care of my mom Maria and that of our family. I am truly indebted to you all. I will never forget everyone's kindness and professionalism, as well as the beautiful chapel. I would absolutely recommend Crowder Funeral Home for your loved one. You won't regret it! “We are deeply grateful to Crowder Funeral Home in Pearland, especially Mark and the entire supporting staff, for the exceptional care and compassion shown during the visitation for our mother, Brenda. They were caring, attentive, responsive, and showed true empathy as we navigated the loss of our mom. Mark was always available—whether by text, phone, or in person—and his relaxed demeanor in boots and jeans put us at ease during a very difficult time. The staff went above and beyond to honor our requests and made everything feel seamless and comforting. We would definitely recommend Crowder Funeral Home to our friends and family.”
