“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“When we started looking for a funeral home to use for my father in law's cremation, Shannon Funeral Home was one of the first (of many) I called. Susie answered all my questions and was so sweet! She assured me to call back anytime with questions, even if we used another funeral home. Once we decided to use SFH, Alexis was my go-to! We talked almost daily either by phone or email. She felt like a family member and was always ready to answer all our questions and concerns. We live in another state and traveled to FL to get things in order. I was not prepared when I learned cremations can take 7-10 days or longer! Alexis was on top of everything and managed to get the cremation ready quicker than expected. We were able to have a beautiful sunset service at the beach with family and friends to celebrate the life of my father in law before we had to travel back home. I don't think that would have been possible if we had used anyone else. When comparing prices, initially I felt SFH was more expensive than others I had called. However, SFH bundles everything together. Handling the body, the death certificate and Urn. Other places are more a la carte and that adds up quick. Overall I feel the price was comparable to others considering we needed the death certificate and wanted an Urn. The stress of dealing with an unexpected death, traveling with kids and having to manage everything that comes with the death of a parent was lessened knowing my father in law was in the care of Alexis at Shannon Funeral Home. She was professional yet felt like a family member. I am so thankful for her and the staff at Shannon Funeral Home!”
