You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“There are several reasons my family and I are sincerely grateful for Mike and the staff at Hulke Funeral Home. The biggest reason, however, is that they showed genuine compassion and humanity in every interaction we experienced with them. During a time of deep pain, trauma, and loss, they treated our family with such care and dignity that it was clear their focus was not on business, but on people. They offered options and support rather than pressure. Every detail reflected professionalism, kindness, patience, and understanding. They truly went above and beyond. We are truly grateful for the part they played in guiding us through the hardest life moment we may ever experience. Highest recommendations for Hulke Funeral Home.”

“This past summer we buried our mother, Delores Johns. We had chosen Hulke Family Funeral Home for her service. The building and location is beautiful but a major flaw is the inadequate technology. They only use DVD's and it is very difficult to find someone to copy one. We had prepared an extensive slide show documenting our mother's rich life. A major disappointment was that we could not show this on the televisions because their technology only uses DVD's. With the help of my nephew we were able to hook up one television in the back of the room which needed to be restarted multiple times. In spite of this the service was beautiful because of all the work our family put into it. When we expressed our concerns to the staff we were met with anger and accusations that we did not listen to their poorly communicated.directions. We were told everyone else is happy and satisfied with their funeral home. So our family experience with the staff was not positive and professional.”

“I have attended many funerals and/or burials, but had never had to plan one. The process seemed so daunting until we called Hulke, Mike gave us a quick overview of the process on the phone and then sat down with us to discuss the full process. I am happily surprised with how simple he made everything, and the care and attention he provided us, honoring our personal wishes and ensuring we got a proper military burial for our loved one.”
