“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“My family received the most disrespectful treatmenti have ever experienced. During a funeral where we tried to have a peaceful goodbye to our beloved grandfather, one of the staff of the the funeral home who was parking cars was giving the family a hard time with a parking lot that was still mostly empty as the immediate family arrived first. One of the grandsons, who was a Pallbearer, had the responsibility of carrying in the family portrait to go next to the casket. The aggressive staff member cornered the grandson as he tried to get out of the car saying that particular parking spot was for family only. When my family member expressed that he was a grandson and Pallbearer it wasn't enough to keep him from yelling at us. After a few words between several members of the family and this staff member, he charged at the grandson as if he was going to assault him. At this point 5 to 10 of my cousins and uncles had to hold this man back because he was getting violent. When the family confronted the owner of the funeral parlor, he pretended the incident never happened. Only after asking the aggressive staff member to leave for 20 minutes did he finally leave. We received no apology for the behavior. Never in my life have I ever seen this level of disrespect, and on the day of a funeral no less. It was classless and put a lot of stress on the family. Extremely disappointed, but we're honestly just glad we never have to deal with them again.”
