You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Colin treated our family with such dignity and compassion during our time of loss. He was always prompt and courteous. He approached our loss with sensitivity, and we never felt rushed. Colin really views his work as a calling, and you can feel that when you work with him and the Maxon Family group. My family and I greatly thank you all for your care, concern, and support during this difficult time. I am grateful to have been able to work with you all around several very important items that needed to be attended to after the loss of our loved one. Thank you again.”

“Colin and his staff worked with us closely to help commemorate the life of our infant daughter. They all had a welcoming, patient, calm demeanor. Colin explained options very well to our family and was so patient with answering all family members questions during this difficult time of grief and brain fog. We were very touched with the attention to detail he spent on our daughter’s presentation and made her look like a little sleeping angel in her intricate white outfit. Colin and his staff were very professional and respectful when ushering the flow of events— the wake, the funeral the next day, the procession to the cemetery, the burial, and transportation of flowers and memorabilia to the after party at Whistle Binkies Pub. My husband and I have reflected many times about how happy we were with how everything turned out with all the events honoring our daughter, and how smoothly it all went. We are very grateful for the Maxon Family assisting us during the worst time of our lives. We would recommend them to any of our family and friends.”

“Working with Maxon Family Cremations was a very welcome experience during a difficult time. My Father-In-Law passed but Cindy and Colin were professional and showed great compassion. Their team quickly responded, guided us through questions, explained what to expect, and were happy to accommodate our schedule. It was as good of an experience as we could have had under the circumstances.”
