You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Over the past two years, I have visited my family at Rose Hill on Memorial Day and several other times during the year. Each time, the lawn is overgrown and it is difficult to find my family. This year the lawn was even more overgrown and the cemetery was the the worst I’ve seen. Near my family, I saw several graves with missing vases and one headstone vase just laying in between headstones. I am unsure why the cemetery is unable to mow. I realize that it has been raining, but we visited four other cemeteries—small and large ones. All the cemeteries were mowed and graves were clean. The rain is no excuse—other cemeteries were kept up. Rose Hill hasn’t always been this way. Please hire lawn maintenance and help us honor our families.”
— Stephanie Cagle
“The cemetery grounds are never up kept. The grass is always high. I never see workers cutting grass and if they do they wait till the last minute when the grass is tall and you can’t see any grave stones. They can’t even keep their word, look at picture of the website. If your workers can’t do their job then hire a company. Or tell the families to come cut their deceased loved ones’ grass and pay them. Very disappointed.”
— Ana Cisneros
“For the prices you all charge for plots there is absolutely no excuse for the cemetery not being neatly mowed and kept up, especially not days before Memorial Day, you guys need to hire a legit lawn service…. I was so disappointed having to pull weeds from around headstones while trying to decorate …”
