Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Unfortunately, I needed to use a funeral home. My Mother had passed unexpectedly. Lee's was awesome. They put up with my emotional state, and answered every question that they could. They handled the situation expeditiously, and permitted me to meet with them frequently to accommodate some of my requests. Some things, they could not control, for example, the manner in which the Coroner handled my Mother's body. Did you know that, if a loved one dies while not at the hospital, or in hospice care, the at the Coroner in Nevada is obliged to handle the body as if it were conducting a forensic evaluation? In other words, parts can be taken. It also takes longer for the death certificate. I strongly advise everyone to stop avoiding the subject of death and put affairs in order so that you have the proper space to grieve when the time comes.”

With my father, they were great, really helped out with getting the temp death certificate so we could finish up a house sale which was already happening when my father passed.
