You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I would like to thank Mark's Funeral Home for doing a wonderful job with my wife's service...Myself and our children were very happy with the service he had provided.. Austin was very patient with me and I felt that he had listen to what I wanted..so apparently someone was very unhappy with the service.. everything that was done was done with my wishes.. I shouldn't need to explain why it was simple... but im going to .. Her blouse she had brought out her beautiful eyes. It was her favorite color.. The blanket was nice she looked peaceful.. her hair was combed and it got messed up because i was running my fingers through her hair... she was natural because that was who she was... I am very upset that I also have to explain why she didn't have any undergarments on .. like the bra that she didn't have on... SHE DID NOT LIKE THEM !!!!!! Why would I put one on her... apparently you didnt know It was all about her... only her!!! We did what she wanted...her wishes... As her wife and behalf of our kids we want this to stop..We are very upset. We are dealing with a tremendous loss We dont need to deal with your uglyless on top of that. Myself and our children were very satisfied with Mark's Funeral Home...therefore so not to be rude myself Keep your opinions yourself. Even though my wife is gone she wouldn't want this unnecessary drama... Thank you Austin for everything you have done for my wife.. She was perfect The service was perfect”

“Lack of communication regarding promises made in person. Was told my mother would be processed within a week, took several weeks. I was told they would send a mockup of the obituary I wrote and sent to them and wait for my approval before posting it. I had to email several times and never got a response. I found the obituary posted randomly one day weeks later. They were supposed to get pricing to get it sent to the Tribune, mom died over a month ago and nothing has been sent as of yet. We ordered 5 fingerprint necklaces and with the lack of communication, promises not kept, I am afraid we won’t be receiving them, and to be honest, a small part of me is scared we won’t get them. I can be understanding that it’s a small business and they are super busy, but this is a stress we weren’t counting on adding to this sudden and tragic loss to our family. Communication, more than deadlines is all we are asking for. I added photos of the emails sent and the 0 email replies received. Clearly my emails were received since the obituary was on the website. I checked spam folders and have no replies back. We can be understanding if things get delayed, but just tell us what is going on.”
