You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I would not recommend this funeral home. A Funeral Home that has been in business for so long as no excuse. It's a time when there is no room for error. First, to much confusion on the visitation. But the most important part was at the gravesite. The granddaughter forgets the name of the person's funeral service?? Unacceptable. The police escort did not show, and lastly throw the flowers in the trunk of limo. If you want the best for your loved one, this is not the place.”

“Just laid my baby to rest Monday. Never had any experience planning a funeral before but Mr. Pollard and his granddaughter made the process so smooth especially with all the stress we were under losing our baby and planning our first funeral. They worked with us on and were there to help us with anything we needed. I wouldn’t have chosen anyone else to bury my sweet baby! They made the experience as pleasant as they could, given the circumstances.and P.s. Mr. Pollard can sure drive that hearse, made sure everyone was out of the way. ❤️”

“Absolutely the worst experience during an already heartbreaking time. The level of unprofessionalism at Pollard Funeral Home was unbelievable. While Mr. Pollard himself was polite, he consistently came off as disorganized and incompetent. Communication was awful from start to finish — we had to double-check everything, and even then, things were still mishandled. The viewing was chaotic and stressful. Immediate family had little to no privacy with my brother, and staff repeatedly entered the room to rush us and allow others in, completely disregarding our wishes. One of the most upsetting parts was that we explicitly requested no one touch or style his hair without our approval, as I planned to do it myself. Not only was this request ignored, but someone unauthorized was allowed in to do it — and when I came on the scheduled day to do it myself, I was denied entry. The disorganization and lack of compassion continued at the funeral. They completely did their own thing without consulting us. The church was chaotic — everyone was let in at once, and the gathering of guests to get to their seats was a complete mess. Even more upsetting, they made the decision to keep his casket closed throughout the service without regard for how we felt, which was not what we wanted. Then, instead of a proper viewing, they wheeled him into the lobby for a rushed, chaotic final moment that felt cold and disorganized. Even after numerous confirmations — including written instructions and verbal discussions — there were still multiple misspellings in the obituary. For the price we paid, the quality was unacceptable and incredibly disappointing. Laying a loved one to rest should be handled with care and compassion. Unfortunately, this experience felt more like a business transaction than a respectful service. It was clear the focus was on money, not the grieving family. I would never recommend Pollard Funeral Home to anyone. They took advantage of us at our most vulnerable and made an already painful time even worse.”
