You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“We had a wonderful experience with Gus from Gus Camacho Funeral Home. Losing a loved one is never easy, but it makes all the difference when someone like Gus steps in—responsive, compassionate, and ready to handle every detail. He and his team took care of all the logistics with professionalism and kindness, allowing us to focus on saying goodbye. I highly recommend their services.”

“My mother was transferred from Honolulu, Hawaii to Jackson Memorial Hospital for further care and transplant evaluation. Unfortunately, she was deemed not viable for a transplant and passed peacefully in Miami. While we were prepared for this reality when we transferred her from Honolulu, we had no friends or family in Miami to help us with all of the things that are required after a loved one passes. Camacho Funeral Home (Cremations America) was a recommendation from our Organ Recovery team. After reading reviews online, I called to begin coordination before my mother passed. George was sympathetic, professional, and reassuring. It felt like I was talking to an old friend I’d known for years. He throughly explained the process, the cost, and what I needed to do. Once my mother passed, I called to let them know I had completed and sent in all the paperwork to them. They expressed their condolences and reassured us that they would take care of everything, including letting us know the timeline, being sensitive to the fact that we were 5,000 miles from home in an unfamiliar city. In the days after my mother passed, I called several times to discuss coordination and timing and both Gus and George were patient and communicative. We brought some items to George that he reassured us would be with mom for her cremation. George also reassured us that their urn was TSA approved and would have all required paperwork to ensure a smooth return home for mom. We ended up returning home to Hawaii then flying back to Miami to ultimately bring my mother home. George gave us an accurate timeline that allowed us to plan accurately. We picked up my mom and brought her home with no issues. We really appreciated George and Gus’s compassion, professionalism, and communication. They made a really difficult time in anyone’s life, and even more so because of the distance, a little less difficult. They treated us like family and we are eternally grateful for their assistance in honoring my mother and treating her dignity for her return home to Hawaii. I would highly recommend Camacho Funeral Home (Cremations America) to anyone who reads this review. Mahalo nui loa to George and Gus; aloha a hui ho.”

“We cannot thank Gus enough for the care, compassion, and professionalism he showed during such a difficult time. From our very first conversation, he was kind, patient, and genuinely supportive, making an overwhelming process feel manageable. Gus handled every detail with dignity and respect, and his calm presence brought real comfort to our family. It was clear he truly cares about the people he serves, not just the service itself. We are deeply grateful and would highly recommend Gus to anyone needing an exceptional funeral director.”
