You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“If you are debating it, your loved ones deserve better. Horrible communication. Not the same as when the parents ran the joint. I asked for my family member to be placed in their urn for their water burial. I was ensured this was no issue. I received my mother in law back in her urn, inside of no baggy. Pieces falling completely out of the box. For those who are familiar will recognize how morbid this is. Regardless of the fact that there were 2 baggies inside for each urn. There were pieces falling all over. All over the ground, the box, the car, my sink. Thanks to Brent, I had to, on my own, take my mother in law out of her resting place of her urn, and replace her inside of the baggies, then inside of the urn so I could travel with her for her resting arrangements. The water urn also had full instructions to only put about an ounce inside. He took it upon himself to fill it all the way up. Imagine knowing someone for years, years, endless memories, and trusting a funeral home to help them be at peace, then have to re do this yourself. My job wasn’t to put her to rest, but his was. With working at a funeral home, you would think it was known how an urn works. I tried calling and emailing and have not received a word. Do yourself a favor and stay far far away. Save yourself the hassle. This was vile and disgusting to be treated this way at an end of life event.”

“Communication is horrible. It’s been weeks now that we have heard nothing back about my husband son. No response at all.”

“Have been trying to get in contact by phone and email for the last two weeks just to ask a question. I have not received a response either way. Sad this company cannot respond to a loved one wanting information.”
