You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“An large American flag we had placed on my Dad's grave was found shredded, and stuck back in the ground UPSIDE DOWN ON the opposite side of this grave marker. We were very distressed to see this, and called to report this. The lady, sorry, I didn't get her name told me there was nothing they could do about it and that they are Not responsible for things the family brings! She gave me the impression she didn't really care and wasn't going to even attempt to do anything about it. Very disappointed! We have also had beautiful flower arrangements stolen! This place needs new management over the grounds. I love my parents and visit frequently and don't want to see items damaged or stolen! Please do BETTER!!!”

“In the beginning I had the highest regard for the staff , until the incident that occurred this week. The groundsman damaged my mother’s grave while digging to open & close another grave…I reported this to office staff immediately and she assured me this would be addressed and fixed…I came back to visit my Mothers grave the next afternoon & called back to speak with office manager & he offered his apologies & acknowledged that the person responsible for this has been made aware in addition the groundsman supervisor has seen and addressed this issue with the person responsible. I return Saturday and the issue has not been fixed and what is so disheartening to me is that my mother’s grave was damaged while your groundsmen was digging another grave however your groundsman left the grave that was just dug in good condition while leaving my mother’s grave looking like trash!!! WHY WOULD ANYONE DO THIS? I THINK IT WAS INTENTIONAL!! THE SECOND BLOW TO MY HEART IS THAT AFTER THE SUPERINTENDENT LOOKED AT IT, HE LEFT MY MOTHERS GRAVE IN THAT SAME CONDITION & WALKED AWAY. My Mother’s grave should have been fixed right then!!! This is UNACCEPTABLE ON EVERY LEVEL & THERE IS NO EXCUSE I WANT TO HEAR!! She may not be your mother however she is my mother and still the most important being in my life!!! I visit my mother’s grave every single day and have done so since the day we placed her at this cometary 7 months ago… and I care for my mother’s grave. At this moment I regret choosing Greenville Memorial Gardens and I have lost all respect for every single staff member at this location.”
