You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“If you have the unfortunate loss of a loved one, I urge you not to use Cope Memorial, they are horrible! Go with Farmington Funeral Home, 100%. After losing both my boys, I used Farmington Funeral home for Stoney my first son i lost in August of 2024. I have no complaints at all, they were absolutely amazing, the care and compassion they showed spoke volumes. My poor Phoenix, who i lost June 2025, only 10 months apart, was in the care of Cope. Cope did not show the care or compassion that Farmington funerl did. I asked for hand prints for both boys, i asked for locks of hair for both. I asked about payment for the services, if i can make payments. Both told me yes, but the difference is Farmington Funeral would allow me to bring Stoneys remains home, they said its immoral to keep the remains from the family, they would just hold the death certificates till it was paid off. Getting him home was most important! Cope on the other hand said they would keep Phoenixs remains until I paid them off. I'm attaching pictures of the hand prints for both boys so yall can see the difference, along with the difference in the locks of hair. Only thing I have good to say about cope is the viewing of Phoenix, he looked good. But I can't compare to Farmington funeral on that as I didn't have the viewing for personal reasons. Phoenix hand print on the left Stoney on the right. I got 2 left hand prints of Phoenix no right hand. The locks of hair for Phoenix were in a plastic bag, I put his hair in the little jars myself. Stoneys hair was placed in the jar and had a tag saying his name, and each jar was in a nice velvet bag. Not to mention I had to deal with a very rude lady at cope when I had to call them. I will forever regret using Cope!!! Im so sorry baby, Phoenix you deserved better care. Willow was the only exception to Cope, she was they only person there who cared.”

“The staff at Cope Memorial Chapel were excellent. I reached out to them a year before my father passed and they walked me thru all options. They helped me prep in advance. When the day came, they were so thoughtful and considerate when dealing with me and my sister during the process. I really appreciate all that they did and have done. We used them 9 years ago with my grandmother and that is why we chose them again.”

“I waited quite awhile to write this, I expect nothing from Cope, not a apology or restitution. Do not use this place, they did not have the correct name of my mother on the papers at her funeral, when my sister asked where is the jewelry I asked to be removed and not interned, they said oh sorry about the name and we made a mistake and buried the jewelry. Would give no stars if possible.”
