“This is my second experience with this facility. My grandmother passed here many years ago and my mother is currently in her last hours here. I am a NP - so is my sweet mother - so I feel like I can give a fairly objective assessment since, even with my family, taking a clinical role becomes a coping mechanism. I say all that to give a foundation for my review. The staff here have been incredibly attentive to my mother and my family. She has required continued increases in her medication and nurses have reassessed her and sought orders when she needed higher doses of medication. Initially, I wondered if I should just take mom to my parent’s house and manage her there, but now that I see how many times they have increased her medication and the number of times they have tried different combinations of meds to get her comfortable, I know the process is easier here where things are readily available. My mother has not been at perfect peace every second, but I see how hard they have worked for her and I am realistic about this process. Staff have been compassionate and generous. I have the deepest appreciation for them. It has made this process so much better - not necessarily easier, but better. There really aren’t enough words to express my family’s gratitude for Ogeechee Area Hospice.”

“Unfortunately, a family member chose this location. During her stay the doctor who orders meds was not there and I had to force the nurse to call someone as she was saying “God help me” due to the pain. It was at this time her body immediately sat up and her lip curled under as she was having a stroke. The nurse replied “whew, never seen that before”. Then, I DEMANDED an on call doctor be called NOW. I later learned that my grandfather regurgitated and choked at this same facility. I’ve attended counseling due to the traumatic event as I feel like I let her down. I ask that God forgive me and may she have peace.”
