“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Flush marker cemetery. As a taphophile I enjoy visiting new and different cemeteries. However the flush marker/flat plat cemeteries are boring, mundain and lack any pleasing aesthetics. The flush marker after a few decades sink into the ground and are then buried with earth. That said for this cemetery is well maintained and also has columbarium niches.”

“They were very professional, considerate and helpful through the process. They worked with us and the funeral home and accommodated all our needs.”

“My family owns six plots. My paternal grandparents are buried there and my mother. When I went there to handle the paperwork for my mother I was told there were issues. This was 1996. I had to bury my mother all alone, it was a horrific experience. I was sobbing and very upset. It had been a hard day. The staff told me I didn’t have the right paperwork and that my father (who had cancer and was hundreds of miles away) would have to come in person. The staff were not kind or sympathetic. It was like I was picking up a car and had the wrong paperwork. No concern for me. No we’re so sorry or anything. I called my dad, though I never cry around him, I was sobbing. He told me to hand the phone to them. I don’t know what he said, but I got no more hassles after this. I would like to tell everyone the staff were kind, empathetic, but that was not the case. It was one of the worst days of my life. It remains a painful experience.”
