“Roughly eight years ago I purchased a burial policy for my elderly mother. I purchased it with Gonzalez Funeral Home for the simple reason that my family had used them for generations. Foolishly I didn’t not shop around and it cost me significantly. My brother had the same type of cremation a year ago at another local funeral home. It was under $1400.00. Gonzalez Funeral Home cost me roughly $2700.00+ for the very same basic cremation my brother had. Not to mention that the process was hardly smooth. When I called to ask if mom had already been cremated I was told no because I had not signed and notarized required forms. That was the first time I was told of any forms that required notary. I live in another state and hoped that the process would be straightforward. Had to tell them more than once how many death certificates. Asked that they give me some of mom’s ashes so I could bring some home with me. But he forgot to set aside the ashes for me. Mr. Rogers offered to unseal the urn and get them for me. At this point I’m too tired of dealing with any more unnecessary delays. The toll the death of a loved one takes is enough. Not only was I dealing with the death of my mother, but the fact that she may have been beaten to death at a local nursing home was overwhelming along with with the excruciating heartbreak of how she died. The last thing I needed was to go through a process that was less than positive. I highly recommend/suggest that you shop around. Other Funeral Homes are half the cost.”
