You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I am so grateful for Curt and Barb and the entire staff at Lind funeral home. They are kind and so helpful during the difficult process of laying a loved one to rest. They helped with both my dad and my mom's funeral. They made it easy when it is hard to make decisions. Thank you.”

“Congratulations to the Linds on their 10 year anniversary as the only family owned and operated funeral home in Alexandria, MN! Shortly after the Lind Family Funeral Home became operational in Alex, we met the Lind Family. Due to Curt’s encouraging and friendly nature, my wife Anita and I decided to preplan our funerals - which we did in 2016. Tragedy struck our family in 2017 with the unexpected death of our only son Brian. Devastated, my first phone call was to Curt Lind who assured me that they would “take care of everything” and they did. With our minds and emotions blurred by tragedy, the Linds went to work behind the scenes making a long distance round trip to retrieve our son’s body and then planned a beautiful service at their new facility honoring Brian. As painful as the loss of our son was and is vividly still painful after almost 10 years, we wanted the Linds to know how much we appreciate their genuine friendship, competence and love during our family’s time of great pain - and to assure others considering a funeral that the Lind Family will in fact “take care of everything” in one's own personal time of need.”

“I cannot say enough amazing things about the Lind family and their assistance to our family at the most difficult of times. We lost our dad, Michael, unexpectedly in April, and prior to losing him, he had worked with the Lind family to set up funeral arrangements, in case anything should happen to him. I sincerely thank them (and him!) for taking care of this. The week/week and a half of the funeral and visitation, as well as the interment were very difficult on all of us, but what can sometimes be a difficult decision-making process was made very smooth by their team. They were caring and compassionate, and we feel very grateful and blessed to have had their help through everything. Thank you, Curt, to you and your family for EVERYTHING. We would recommend you time and time again! Andrea, Cindy, Evan, and Brendan Sieve”
