You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“If I could possibly give this funeral home 0 stars if I could. While preparing to have my uncle memorial services at Taylor, everything went well. I was put in contact with someone who works for Taylor who could assist with the obituaries which was great. This individuals printing company is called Kor. We initially chose Taylor because of the reputation and we’ve had services here before for our family members. The day of the memorial services everything went wrong. The obituaries were terrible, so terrible I was reluctant to give them out. I was told I can provide a flash drive so we can have a video of photos for display. The day of we were told the tv was broken and we could switch rooms after everything was set up and people were arriving. People came to me and stated the bathroom was disgusting in which some left to use the bathroom elsewhere, there were also complaints about the bathroom being so outdated that it seems to be some other concerns. After the services were over, my aunt contacted Taylor to share our dissatisfaction. They agreed to refund some funds, Kor printing agreed to return a percentage of the money back and remake obituary. The woman who has Kor printing actually send over what you send her to a third party and keeps the funds. This is not an example of professionalism. The family was very upset about all these things occurring during my uncles final send off. I would recommend not doing business with this funeral home. I’m so glad we had the cremation at a separate place. They did take accountability for some of the things that went wrong but it seems to be the same mistakes they are making judging by other reviews. Please be aware of this funeral home and choose another place to send your love ones off.”

“This funeral home had so many of my family members services here and this funeral home still hasn't been renovated. It's expensive. The bathroom is awful. Floors are not leveled. You hear awful floor cracking noises in all of the service rooms. The inside is very ugly and the restrooms are terrible. No baby changing tables in the restrooms. Main office is junkie. Old cd prayer for music. They are cheap with services but will charge you so much. Cremation is no better, but would be a better choice elsewhere. Most black funeral homes are awful. Go to the white funeral homes. They take better care of them. White cemeteries are better and much nicer. Lastly, while I was at a service I heard and older man taking to a younger black man trying to rush the service. It's all about money then the driver of the that day drove like he was in a racing game He kept switching lanes and we had elderly people in our family. Overall, I will be speaking with my family members about where their services will be elsewhere. I hope this place change on their actions.”

“I attended a service for my friend this past Friday. The service provided was horrible, I had to get up and go find someone to close and reopen the casket as the officiant called out and no one was there. Then the preacher wasn’t even going to go to the cemetery. Y’all taking people money and not providing them with services they paid for.”
