You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I lost both my therapy dogs Marley and Cooper in a house fire. I wasn’t able to get them out for a week. When I called Conrad was so kind. So supportive. This was a big trauma, and completely broke me. Conrad told me he couldn’t guarantee paw prints but that he’d try. The urns are beautiful. And I cried for a while when I opened their bag and saw the paw prints. I will never forget the care, compassion and love they treated me with. Knowing they were there and taking care of my babies helped, and while the first time seeing the urns was so so difficult, it’s a big relief to my mental health to have them home, and safe with me again. If I ever need this kind of service again without a doubt I will be back. I also recommend them to everyone I know. Conrad and staff. Thank you for making a devastating loss, a little easier. ❤️”

“If you're looking for the right place to cremate your companion animal, please read this. Upon first discovering this place, I was suspicious—nothing but perfect 5 star ratings? Well, I can see that Companions Forever is just THAT good a business, from my first impression speaking with Conrad, all the way to retrieving my soul-cat's ashes. Conrad is truly in the right business, for the right reasons. Not a single thing to dislike. I sincerely wish I had learned of this place before two other cats passed and were processed through Heavenly Paws. They aren't bad, really, but they do put the ashes in ZIPLOC BAGS. I guess most people don't care, but I certainly do. Companions Forever gives beloved animals the respect they deserve. From now on, this is the only place I will ever go to for private cremation.”

“My Zeus had bone cancer and it was his time to go. Originally I was going to schedule with a different company I had used in the past. Unfortunately, my experience with them this time was not great due to their lack of communication. Right off the bat communication was great with Conrad! I felt we were cared about. I had asked that Dr. Sam be the one to come to my home for the euthanasia. He was wonderful once again. He even remembered coming here for my dog deuce 3 years ago. I was able to pick Zeus up the next day. He’s home for Thanksgiving. I love the coin you can purchase that turns out with its own unique coloring. I also loved the fact that a wooden box comes with the service instead of your pet leaving in one of those plastic ones you usually get from places. I will always go with companions forever now when the time comes to let my other pets go. They are a blessing for people who have to let their family member go. I’ve already recommended them to many people for when it’s their pets time. Thank you so much for being so great!”
