You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Adam Woodworth for reaching out to me during a very challenging time and helping to resolve the miscommunication regarding my beloved rabbit, Jupiter, who has sadly passed away. Your understanding and empathy in the wake of this loss have truly meant a lot to me, especially when it came to coordinating the arrangements for her memorial. Your kind words and support helped ease the burden of this difficult process, and I cannot thank you enough for your generosity and help during this emotional time. Your thoughtfulness has made a significant difference, and I am deeply appreciative.”

“Pet Angel is an absolute Godsend. They've been so incredibly helpful and kind during this sad time for my family. We had some issues with the delivery, but that was entirely the fault of USPS, and Pet Angel did everything they could to help me. The products sent to me are beautiful and exactly what I wanted, thank you. Being able to bring her home and lay her to rest means the world to me.”

“We picked up our cat today. When we arrived to the location, the door was locked and we rang the bell. The gentleman who came to the door, basically just opened the door and turned and walked away. We had no idea where to go, so we just followed him. He didn't ask who I was there to pick up. So, I spoke up and told him. He had yet to speak a word to us. He literally just reached up on top of a cabinet and grabbed a bag and handed it to us like a grocery bagger would hand you your groceries. I said, is there anything else I need to do or is there anything I need to sign? He said, nope that's it! That was literally all he said to us while we were there. No..."I'm sorry for your loss", "I'm glad we could help ease your pain", "If there's anything else you need"... NOTHING!!!! We literally just grabbed our bag with our cat inside and walked out the door. It has been a horrible week for us after losing our pet of almost 16 years. The interaction was cold, with zero sympathy for our feelings. So disappointed with their customer care. On a side note: The Urn was nice, came in a nice velvet bag with a certificate of cremation.”
