You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Christian paid special attention to details… from Elvis’ promptness to the receptionists kind dispositions, everything flowed during a very tumultuous time. Our family was pleased.”

“Super unorganized for a funeral home. 1. They were unorganized and didn’t communicate that with us until brought up or asked. 2. We were bombarded with three people at once, the first time we came to organize my veteran father’s funeral. 3. They consistently kept misspelling names until we finally got it right to make sure it was listed and written correctly for documents and the obituary. 4. They did not tell us that we are not allowed to watch my father be lowered into the grave during the funeral until three days before, leaving us only with a memorial service. We were only told after asking how the funeral would work in chronological order. 5. They were rude enough to call THE DAY AFTER the funeral to get their payment, leaving zero time to mourn. 6. Unprofessional approach when coming in to finalize things, the director coming up in shorts and a T-shirt apologizing and telling us “sorry, I was cremating.” 7. They didn’t communicate to us that the urn would be in the chapel before being loaded into the hearse until the moment we got to the funeral home. 8. They never sent the obituary to my father’s home state town in Minnesota like they said they would. (Still hasn’t happened) 9. We cannot get any sort of money for our bills or utilities until we have the death certificates. The woman from the home called and told my mom she won’t give us the death certificates until we pay for the whole cost of the cremation, which we cannot do until we have the death certificates. We explained this on the phone and the woman got very disrespectful and lost whatever customer service she had left saying “you should have had this done weeks ago” with the loopiest attitude possible. We literally are behind on everything BECAUSE we cannot get the death certificates in order to get paperwork started to GET paid regularly TO PAY the funeral home. We understand payment is due, however, they lost all our respect after the way we were treated and spoken to by the woman on the phone. 10. To sum it all up, super unprofessional, disrespectful staff, money greedy, treated us with hardly any sympathy, no communication, quick to get everything done and over with. You would think that for a funeral home, they would treat you more like you just lost a loved one, and not like a business greedy to take people’s money.”

“Currently they are receiving 1 star because of the total lack of follow up and complete dismissal of any after the fact follow up. They took care of my father and did well. My mom, not so much. There is a new crew and I am picking up on a different vibe to these workers. I think one may be prejudice. At this time, I would not recommend this facility. Still trying to get them to follow-up with their promises. 2 broken today alone.”
