You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“The team at Community Funeral Service went above and beyond for our family. They treated us with genuine compassion, guided us through every step, and never made us feel rushed or pressured. In such a hard time, their kindness and professionalism made all the difference. Their prices are fair, but what really stood out was how much they truly care about the families they serve. I’m so grateful for their support and would wholeheartedly recommend.”

“Over the past several years our family has found ourselves in need of quality care for the final arrangements of our loved ones. When my aunt was in her final days on hospice care at home, I was referred to Community Funeral Service by her best friend. She had already availed herself of their services for her parents, her son and a friend. I called in for my aunt and without hesitation we were well supported in making imminent arrangements for my aunt. The team was kind, gentle and efficient, communicating well every step of the way. In response to recommending them to other friends, those same friends have called me with their own appreciation. Most recently, the friend whom had referred me for my aunt’s care, herself passed in February. Sadly, she did not have anything in place to navigate her final wishes, nor did she have anything next of kin. She remained in the care of the hospital morgue for over four months as I petitioned LA County Probate Court for permission to move forward as a friend in handling her final arrangements. On the day I received the document necessary (Ex Parte), I contacted the hospital and also Angel at Community Funeral Service. He listened to my plight, and understood that my friend had also been a valued client over the years, but since it was late in the day, I was not pressuring them into action until the next business day, and in fact, Angel was ending his work day as we made contact. He took the necessary info and we agreed to be in touch the next day. Well…he contacted me a couple hours later and he had stayed in the office and firmed up all the plans and advised me that my friend was being transported by their team from the hospital into their care, that night! Every single step along the way, in this most recent encounter, and each time prior, has been professional and with heart. Their rates are fair, and they offer a myriad of services without pressure.”

“Though tucked away in this little business center with a shared parking lot, this mortuary home is definitely worth it for those in need. I spoke with Cathy in my time of need, and she helped me with the process to make it as stress-free and easy as possible. I just called the number on a Saturday of all days and they soon had someone to come up and pick up my family member, told me where they were, secured death certificates, and helped me finalize the end-of-life plans on a schedule that matched with mine. Even though I didn't go with any of the urn options they offered, Cathy did not try to push or upsell me, she accepted my decision and that goes far. I may not have done much business with mortuary homes, but I certainly know I didn't go wrong with this one, and I certainly didn't go wrong with Cathy to help me out. Hopefully she can help you too in these trying times.”
