You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Sunny (the funeral director) was very unprofessional, asking my mom things such as “oh so do you and your brother not get along” while we were waiting for my uncle to arrive before my grandma’s visitation (not to mention they do in fact have a great relationship.) Overall the service was fine but would not recommend this facility because of the staff.”

“My dad passed away on August 2nd at home. The two men that came to transfer him were both incredibly kind and respectful as it was very hard for my family, especially my mom to let him go. They allowed us time to say our goodbyes and allow even his grandchildren to say their goodbyes without making us feel rushed. The next day when we went to sign all the paperwork and say our final goodbyes before he was cremated everyone was so kind and sympathetic. They gave us as much time as we needed and the woman that works there even printed off several photos of his family to be cremated with him so he’d always know how loved he is. I wish I knew their names but with so much going on and all the emotions I unfortunately don’t remember, however I’m so thankful for their kindness and time they spent with my family and allowed us to have. The day we got my dads ashes back they also filled jewelry and a small urn with his ashes. I hope to never have to use them again, however I would always pick them to care for my loved ones again.”

“We are using Hamilton’s Lyon St. location for my stepdad’s services, which included transporting his body from another state. They have been nothing short of amazing throughout. Responsive, kind, compassionate, knowledgeable…all the things that make a rough time a little easier. I highly recommend.”
