You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“23 years ago, my family had a sudden and shocking death of my older brother, David. He was only 28 at that time and it was tragic. I truly appreciate that I have had this place to go to since 2002 to reflect on my brother's life. His resting place is right next to the park on the far west end of the property. Such a lovely veiw of the mountains from there. Anytime I visit, I'm never interrupted in my thoughts as its a nice quiet place to reflect. So much history here with headstones dating back to the early 1900's. Thank you for keeping the grounds cleaned and landscaped for a peaceful setting.”

“I couldn’t have asked for a better support person throughout this extremely hard time than Damon in funeral services. He was so receptive, kind, patient, and on top of the whole funeral service. He supported my friends and family. He did a fabulous job dressing and taking care of my son’s casket items. He was one step ahead with the flowers. He did a better job than I could have imagined with the display items for the funeral. I am so grateful for Damon. The services at Olinger were beautiful. Everything went smoothly.”

“I do believe Olinger is one of the best Funeral homes in the metro area. And their Wheatridge facility is far nicer than most of its competitors. The work they did on my loved one for our private viewing was exceptional. Everyone there is truly very kind and professional. This is my third family member we have used them for. I will say since this time I was the one seeking the services I was expecting a more seamless process- that detailed notes would be taken during each conversation and stored so that each funeral director would follow them without me having to go over it again and again. Lots of details were overlooked and paperwork done incorrectly. And I was genuinely frustrated by the lack of service over the weekend by the on call funeral director. Being one of the most established companies I just wasn’t expecting this. However in the end everything worked out and we were happy with our decision to use them.”
