“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I can't begin to tell you how AMAZING Byles Memorial service is. I was in the unfortunate position of planning 2 funerals in 11 months. Byles Memorial was the service I used the second funeral. I called Mackenzie to plan my father's future funeral. He sadly passed away 3 days later and she had to work lightening speed to get everything coordinated for a funeral in less than 7 days. Mackenzie was organized, personable, empathetic and took ALL of the responsibility for EVERYTHING, even down to the last minute detail changes when more elderly family needed more chairs. She made it happen!! They were the only thing I never had to worry about. She was there every step of the way. His funeral was perfect, his obituary great, the cards were beautiful. I would use Byles again and again. They also came to our house to remove my father, and did so in the most eloquent, respectful way. They were patient and always kind. Her father and the other gentleman were just as wonderful. I did not speak to one unkind soul there. They are top notch. Please don't look any further. Even after the funeral I realized I needed a way to to identify my father's site until I bought a headstone and they went back out to put a marker on the grave the same day, no questions, no hesitation!! I LOVED BYLES.. thank you for everything you did and taking 90% of the work off of my shoulders. The other funeral home I hired 11 months prior not only got my sisters name wrong on the funeral cards, did not print her picture in the obituary (but charged me for it), but blamed everyone else for a reason and never took responsibility nor did they ever say sorry. That's what started me shopping around the second time and I'm so glad I did. Who you chooses matters and those a just a few of the things that can go wrong after you sign a contract.”
