“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Brownsville provided exceptional service during a difficult time. The customer service was outstanding, everyone was compassionate, professional, and attentive to every detail. The chapel was absolutely beautiful and impeccably prepared, creating a peaceful and comforting atmosphere for our family and friends. We truly appreciated the care and respect shown throughout the process. I highly recommend Sunset Memorial Funeral Home for their excellent service and thoughtful attention to every need.”

“We are very disappointed with the service of Sunset funeral home. My stepfather passed away recently and he was supposed to get cremated at this place. My mother was going to receive his ashes, but unfortunately, when she went to pick up the ashes the following day they had already given the ashes to another relative that had shown little regard for my stepdad in his last moments. This is ridiculous!! How could they have given the ashes to the wrong person? My mother was not even able to give him a proper wake or any service at their church because she didn’t get his ashes!!! No apology from the funeral home! What kind of director and staff is in charge of this funeral home that they couldn’t even keep track of who they were giving the ashes to!? So if you want your loved ones’ remains to possibly get lost or given to the wrong person, then go right ahead to Sunset funeral homes.”

“If you’re looking for a good honest review, you’re in the right place. Coming from a person who also works in the funeral industry I am observant in others peoples work. Since the beginning of the initial notification of death, Sunset Memorial Funeral Home was quick with a response and arrived within a matter of moments to care for my grandmother after her passing. Shortly after they were quick to finalize the funeral arrangements with Mr. Daniel (Danny) Gomez whom treated my family with respect & dignity, and was there to answer all their questions. The day of the services the staff was attentive, explained everything with detail and was always around when we needed assistance. Those special details are what makes a funeral establishment shine and strive. A special thank you to Mr. Jaime for his help throughout our grieving days. He never left my family’s side and was there for any little thing we needed and his attention to detail was spot on. The Ramos family thanks the staff of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home for their service and care, may God Bless you all!”
