You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“We appreciate the opportunity to provide feedback regarding our experience with this funeral home. Unfortunately, we feel the services did not meet expectations due to significant issues with organization, communication, and oversight. On the day of the service, there were multiple missteps: the priest began early before the family was fully present, the casket was closed abruptly without clear communication, and the service itself lacked direction, leaving family and guests uncertain of the order of events. The designated family viewing, which was supposed to be reserved for immediate family only, was not respected, as others were allowed to enter. In addition, a blessed cross went missing, and prayer cards that had been purchased were not distributed. Throughout these issues, funeral directors were not present in the service area and remained in their offices until we had to go and find them. When our concerns were raised, the response placed blame on miscommunication and the number of people involved, rather than taking accountability. As directors who oversee such services regularly, clearer communication and leadership should have been provided to guide both the family and the priest . Overall, what should have been a respectful and healing service instead became stressful and disorganized. While certain items were eventually addressed, the lack of preparation, presence, and professionalism diminished the experience for our family. We hope steps are taken to prevent similar issues for future families -Family of James Lopez”

Melissa was very accommodating and understanding in every step of the process from beginning to end! (Cremation arrangements, Rosary, Prayer cards, flowers, Projector for slide show just everything we needed) she is the Best!! In the future they will be our selected Mortuary to take care of all of our funeral needs.”

“Kiana Ruiz made the whole cremation situation less painful for me in my unique circumstance. She stood beside me and offered empathy and quiet comfort and support. The other staff member who was there with us was genuine, empathetic, thorough and professional. Highly important qualities and traits for both women.”
