You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“In My Personal Opinion... I recently attended a Celebration of Life Service at the location of this Business...4 things that were a HORRIBLE experience from a friend of the family... 1. The Snow Plowing Service was actively snow plowing directly outside the chapel..within 20 feet of the windows directly behind the Pastor. Consistently dropping the plow...rumbling...and banging taking away from the message from the Pastor was giving. This was unnecessary at the time of the service. 2. 3 Empty Small Tables that surrounded the front table holding the Cremains of the person that we were there to honor. There was no purpose for these tables as they should've had flowers on them if there were any flowers to display. I took photos to show the unnecessary area blocking of the area 3. Someone from the funeral home staff opened to door from the entryway into the chapel during the message again causing visitors to look towards the door and the commotion vs continued attention to the Pastor. AND...THIS ONE IS HUGE... 4. Upon the ending of the service, the funeral home staff released the visitors from the back to the front (due to not having enough room for the tables and food) and the family (who was sitting in the front row had to eat...LAST... ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE... I would NEVER recommend this company in the future. Maybe S.C.I. (Service Corporation International) will see this and do a followup investigation.”

“Mom had purchased her casket and vault 25 years ago and that was all taken care of. Then we were able to add only the services that we needed. Staff was very nice, organized and professional.”

“Ever Rest Funeral Home in Muskegon did my moms arrangements when she passed on april 24, 2024. Their pricing was excellent, and they were top notch with everything. When they picked up my mom from the Poppin Hospice House in Muskegon they allowed us to help get mom on the gourney and he stepped out to say our final good bye as mom was being cremated and we walked mom out. Mark the director was patient and professional as I called a few times asking questions about Ever Rest and had no problems navigating my family dynamics which is not easy as my mom had 4 kids with 3 different dads and some that did not get along. Mark respected and allowed me to make my own video and memory book and allowed me to have a memory candle lit. i wanted to have a tree theme since mom liked to do the family tree on Ancestry so it was nice to add that personal touch in her funeral. Everything was set up very nice in the funeral home to honor mom and our family and friends felt it was very fitting too. Mark even had the flowers delivered after the funeral to the church we were having refreshments afterwards so we did not have to worry about getting them after the funeral. I told Mark the directions to the church and in my grief I forgot a street so when Mark announced it to the family and friends after the funeral, my Aunt said the missing street and Mark went with it and it was all fine although I felt bad that I forgot to say the one street name on how to get to the church. (I apologized later to Mark.) Overall I was very satisfied with Ever Rest and how they helped to handle all the arrangements. Even though when meeting my face turned red, it was my grief with loosing mom. It takes time but glad we got to honor mom in the best way we could. Thanks to Mark and Ever Rest and to the rest of the workers there. Its not an easy job, but nice to know they understand what mind set you are in as they help you to navigate the funeral. Sincerely, Julie Jacobusse”
