You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Everyone at AE Funeral Services were very kind and compassionate, they were extremely helpful with all the details around my father's final wishes. They really made this difficult time much easier on us, they handled everything with professionalism and care and made us feel that our father was their top priority. I can't overstate how much I appreciate them!”

“They handled my mother’s cremation. Todd was extremely kind, gentle, compassionate and professional. Kathrine did an amazing job on the folders as I am very picky and she handled that well and allowed me to proof and make changes. We did not have a memorial service done here but were present while they had another set up and looks like they handled that well also. Although we did purchase a couple of urns and jewelry items they also allowed us to purchase urns outside of this facility and were happy to accommodate us by splitting the remains into all of the urns. We never want to have a need for these services but I know at some point I will need these services again and I will use AE again. Thank you for everything you did for my family. In loving memory of Cleo Rogers.”

“AE was helpful in every way on the passing of our mother. When a loved one is lost everything seems to stop for those grieving, but the process and decisions of a funeral/cremation start and for most it’s unfamiliar. Thankfully Todd, the AE Funeral Director, took care of our needs and was very calming and understanding during this process. He was always available to talk or text to guide us through everything and was very professional and accommodating when we needed additional time on some decisions. When mom passed, AE was in no rush allowing our family time with mom in this solemn moment. They waited patiently and handled her gently when we were ready for them to take her. Our situation included cremation with a “Celebration of Life” service at a later date when we would place mom with dad. With family members hours away from Shawnee, we needed to plan travel to receive mom’s remains in her urn and Todd went above and beyond to get everything coordinated on time. He was very reassuring throughout the process and thanks are not enough for Todd and his staff. I would definitely recommend their services!”
