You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“My family has always used Wichman Funeral Home as their go to in time of a family death. Normally, we use the Superior Street location but it was not available for this one. So we used the Oneida Street location and was extremely pleased with this selection and would use it again as needed. The people there were compassionate, extremely helpful, and met our every need. They also included a room where we could have the lunch catered in and recommended a catering business that was delicious. I was very impressed with the staff and accommodations.”

“Rebecca at Wichmann has proved to be not much of a go getter considering she is a funeral director and all... She had a very unprofessional attitude and screwed up our written arrangements in at least three ways for my late father's upcoming funeral...Luckily since Rebecca dropped the ball big time, we were able to touch base with Linda, who began to and still is correcting Rebecca's mistakes. You had one job. My mother was in tears this morning and for what??? Your ignorance and lack of compassion? I would seriously not reccomend Rebecca to anybody if they are planning to go with Wichmann for a funeral. Thank you”
— Matthew Crooks
“Wichmann Funeral Home has done several funerals for my family members. Most recently was for my Grandfather that passed away. The staff was very compassionate, caring and professional and easy to work with. Highly recommended using their services.”
