You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“MK Moore and Raegan were sooo supportive and helpful when my mom lost her husband. They were very accommodating for unusual requests as mom is Buddhist. MK Moore arrived early on cremation day to talk us through the process and how best to accommodate the monks who came to pray prior to the cremation. Eric Benjamin was so helpful in directing our family that came because we were gathering at an unusual spot. I cannot recommend Volusia Memorial. Our family has plots and we are confident that our parents will be well cared for here.”

“I have now trusted Volusia Memorial with both of my parents. They were compassionate and patient through the whole process. I truly appreciate how supportive they were.”

“My father passed away in November and we had absolutely no idea where to even start… This funeral home is literally top tier, I am not sure how else to explain them. From the first phone call until AFTER the burial & services were said & done, they were incredible every single step of the way. Specifically Cassie & Regan. Their compassion, grace, patience & attitude are unmatched. They truly took the time to listen, to absorb & then put everything they learned into the perfect service. Not a single detail was missed, the obituary guide, the prayer cards, the funeral favors (idk what else to call them), the center pieces, the display they set up… every single piece was so thoughtfully crafted and no detail was missed. The guidance, explanations and all of the other amazing small things you don’t even think about were never rushed, they TRULY make you feel like you are the only person who has recently lost a loved one, even though I know they deal with multiple families at once. Their communication, timelines and explanation of the processes and costs were some of the best I’ve ever seen. Every single person who works in this place and whomever it is that totally runs the show should be VERY proud of the staff they have accumulated. My family and I felt respected and honestly loved by the staff every step of the way. The grounds are beautifully kept and you can tell everyone takes pride in what they do. Steve (I think) made sure to stay with my dad until he was completely sealed into the ground (per my mothers wishes) and not once did anyone make you feel like your request was ridiculous or a waste of their time. I simply cannot express the gratitude I have for everyone here. Regan & Cassie, you 2 ladies are the type of women I hope everyone gets to deal with when having to lay a loved one to rest. Just absolutely phenomenal experience here all the way around & I would not recommend going anywhere else. This is the place you want to deal with whenever death decides it’s time to shake things up. They will keep you grounded. Thank you to everyone for everything you did for my mother in the most difficult moment of her life. You are all angels on earth.”
