You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Losing a loved one is very tough and it affects everyone differently. My father passed unexpectedly on May 3,2024. Not only was this this most difficult emotional experience I have ever had, I was completely inexperienced on the process and how to handle the affairs. Along with my wife and family, Rickers was my rock through this process. Elizabeth from Rickers show great compassion and sympathy and help guide us through all the steps. She was honestly like an angel help through this terrible time. With her help I feel we organized the best service my dad would ever want. I don't think we could have done it any better and without her help it would not have been as nice. We also met the owner on the day of service. He was well dressed, professional, and equally sympathetic. Living in South Carolina(1,200 miles away) should have posed a challenge organizing but they had such soft kind help that everything was perfect. I never expected in a million years to have to review a funeral home. I felt that they deserved a glowing review if I could give them a rating based on 100 it would be 110/100. God bless Rickers Funeral Home and from the bottom of my heart and the hearts of my family.. Thank you!”

“David Ahern at Ricker Funeral Home is the utmost professional. He was so easy to work with when planning my husband Andy's funeral. He was clear and upfront about costs and NH state laws regarding burial and cremation. There were no surprises nor hidden costs. Everything went perfectly. I didn't have to worry about a thing. David worked seamlessly with the church and took care of paying the organist, pastor and church so I only had to pay one bill. I highly recommend Ricker Funeral Home.”

“Writing this using our family email: God Bless David and all of his staff at Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon. Dave had worked with us when my father passed in 2015, and because of his caring, compassion, kindness and ethical behaviour, during that time in our lives, we knew without question that we would use his services again when my mom passed. I had my mom home with me in Hospice care for three months, and when she passed last month, Dave came to pick her up. He did so with so much care and respect to our needs. The entire process after that went smoothly and all pricing was presented to show us the many options that were available. Nothing was 'pushed' on us to buy and NO CHANGES were made in the pricing after we agreed to and signed the paperwork! Every detail that needed attention Dave handled, and I am grateful for that. My mind was definitely not in the right place to cover it all! Not that anyone wants to say this, but, in the future, we will have all of our arrangements made using Ricker Funeral Home. Thank you, Dave, for everything. We couldn't have made it through to the other side without you and your wonderful staff. ~Allie~”
