You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I chose Baldwin Brothers of Fort Myers for my mother’s cremation based on a Hospice referral. Unfortunately, the experience involved multiple communication and service issues during an already difficult time. There was a delay in transporting my mother from my home due to internal miscommunication. I was later told I could pick her up on a specific day, but when I called to confirm, I was told the office was closed for a meeting and I would need to come the following day. The engraved charm for her urn was done incorrectly. Samantha, the funeral director, assured me it would be corrected and overnighted in time for my mother’s service, but it arrived two days after. Most concerning, after paying in full by check and receiving written receipts showing a zero balance, my credit card—used only for the deposit—was charged the full amount again. This occurred after working with Dawn Fields during the sales process. I’m sharing this to be honest about my experience. Clear communication, follow-through, and accurate billing are especially important for families during times of loss. And I'm still waiting for Jennifer the office manager to call me back about the charge on my credit card. It's been two days now.”

“During one of the most difficult times in my life, I cannot thank Joel Collins enough for his exceptional service and compassion. When my spouse, James, passed away, Joel provided unparalleled support, especially while we were waiting for his remains to be released by the medical examiner's office. Joel's patience and understanding made a world of difference. He kept me fully informed throughout the entire process, regularly providing updates and clear explanations for every step. He handled every interaction with a patient and kind demeanor, which provided immense comfort during a very stressful and emotional time. His professionalism and empathy are a true testament to the values of Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home. I highly recommend Joel Collins to anyone in need of funeral and cremation services. He is a genuinely caring individual who goes above and beyond to support grieving families. Naples Office”
