You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Shame on Tim and Paige. Shame on this company. Please reconsider your final arrangements with these people. There was a sudden death and Paige had scheduled a viewing for a certain time. We had to call back to reschedule a later time due to other family matters. When we got there, there was no body, no priest, nothing we had scheduled with Paige. Their employee Tim was BELLIGERENT, I walked in to him yelling at two women family members, slamming his hands on the walls and table, and telling us he refuses to call Paige or anyone to help us. He said go somewhere else, mind you this is during the bereavement process when emotions are high. He was aggressive, threatening, defensive, and just awful. We were all calm and polite for probably about an hour with this guy until we did lose our own tempers which were not proud of, but we just lost someone and had this awful human, Tim, accost, trivialize, and disrespect two mourning women. When a competitor answered us and said they’ll right this wrong, which they did in only 3 hours time. Grondin, Tasker, look at your employees and perhaps train them on how to deal with taking accountability and responsibility for YOUR disorganization instead of telling the family to leave and you refuse to help. Shame on all involved this is a death, and as stated we did lose our tempers after Tim was relentless in his aggressiveness and defensiveness and outright refusal to try to help, so we are sorry to ourselves for losing composure, but not to Tim who instigated us to this point.”

“I'm in complete disbelief with Grondin Funeral Home. The way Tim treated my family from the moment we entered the building was deplorable and the disrespect towards us and our deceased loved one was frankly inhumane. Being unwilling to even try and right their wrong, unwilling to even try and help, and unwilling to speak about solutions is wild when a family is dealing with a loss, and at the end of the day give them business. The other funeral home in town that we did use was able to right THEIR wrong for them and for us immediately and with compassion and grace. Grondin/Tasker, take a lesson from them perhaps in humanity, compassion, and running a business. Getting yelled at repeatedly for a mistake that your organization admittedly made is a truly bizarre way to treat people during a tragic time and you did so instantly upon our arrival and in a defensive and aggressive manner. I wish for you Tim, that you never have to endure what you added to one of our families darkest days. Do better, be better, and I'd suggest reconsidering your career choice, it doesn't seem like it's for you. You treated my entire family terribly, in life and in death.”

“Dealing with the loss of someones parent is not easy for anyone to have to deal with, so when my wife lost her mom, we used Grondin's and couldn't be more satisfied. The professionalism shown by everyone involved was nothing short of excellent. The compassion and patience shown was great with no pressure on any decisions that had to be made.”
