You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“June 2024: 2⭐: I would not recommend this location and this service. I tried on several instances to call and get answers. This service failed to communicate at a time that it was extremely necessary. My calls just went unanswered. My email and verbal requests went unfilled as well. The representative from the insurance company advised that they called several times and was unable to reach someone who could help with questions to settle the insurance claim. I hired this funeral service after getting a family referral from the area to this business. My initial impression was that the business did a good job getting me connected to a funeral home that could get my family member out of the house after death in home hospice in the middle of the night and out of state. The initial funeral home refused to move my family member to the out of state (Hamilton Funeral Service) without additional paperwork and payment arrangement. Hamilton Funeral Service apparently didn't make arrangements nor communicate a plan of action to move my family member. This failure caused the need to drive to the funeral home service, complete additional paperwork, render complete payment for their service before they would move my family member. The next problem occurred when Hamilton Funeral Service failed to further coordinate with this company to complete paperwork and move my family member across country in a timely fashion. Hamilton Funeral Service advised me that I would get a callback which never happened from the initial service. The next issues occurred when Hamilton Funeral Service failed to call and coordinate my family member shipping and movement to their facility. I was advised that I would get a call from the funeral director which never happened. I was advised that after submitting the obituary information, all of the information would be put on the Hamilton Funeral Service website which was never done. Hamilton Funeral Service failed to coordinate a time for the church service burial of my family member. Hamilton Funeral Service contacted my family on day of the funeral to advise they could not bury my family member after the graveside service. My family member wasn't buried until several days later. My family member arrived at the airport and was moved to Hamilton Funeral Service. Neither the sending nor receiving funeral service advised me that my family member had arrived in the State of Louisiana nor at the funeral home destination after my family member was held in limbo for almost two weeks. I went to Hamilton Funeral Service to sign paperwork and render payment for funeral services. After reviewing the paperwork, it seems that there was a few duplicative charges that were on the invoice. This funeral service was used in lieu of another funeral service that had been recently used by several other family members who received more reasonable rates from the other local funeral services provider for a full service burial.”
