You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Thank you, Lisa, for preparing and doing a good job on my grandmother's makeup. We also appreciate the pastor for speaking words of love and compassion.”

“Avoid this funeral home at all costs. This place lacks compassion and empathy in a time when families need it the most. During my loved one’s service, I politely asked the owner if I could place one of their chairs just outside along the wall for my 96-year-old grandmother. She was not doing well, her legs were very shaky, and she desperately needed fresh air. I also assured the owner that I would return the chair as soon as she was done. Instead of showing understanding, the owner coldly refused. She claimed the chair wasn’t designed for concrete and that they could receive a ticket for having it outside — something I know isn’t true. Considering how much money was spent on their services, this was such a small and reasonable request, and I expected at least some basic compassion. Our family was extremely polite, respectful, and caused no issues, yet we were still denied this simple act of kindness. In a time of grief, anyone would hope for a funeral service provider who treats families with grace, sympathy, and humanity. Sadly, that was not our experience. If you want your loved one’s services handled by people who actually show care, this is not the place for you. Lacks compassion. Lacks empathy. Lacks heart.”

“I’m sorry to say this place was very ghetto and the whole time we could hear the building tenants above us jumping and making noise. Very loud and distracting!!! I would not recommend this place to anyone and to top it off the lady who assisted us at the end was nasty and rude. Them being rude had nothing at all to do with food, alcohol or smoking!!! And the cards that were made were not good at all. They weren’t centered and the picture wasn’t clear. It’s been over a month and my family hasn’t recovered from this experience. They even through out their flowers which cost hundreds of dollars. The owner wasn’t present throughout this whole ordeal so I don’t get why is she trying to defend the actions of her employees. Do better for other families instead of justifying their actions and yours.”
