You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Our experience with JP Holly Funeral Home was outstanding. Felicia did an incredible job directing the service, even while grieving as the sister-in-love. Her compassion, attention to detail, and professionalism showed in every aspect, from the peaceful presentation of Dennis to the smooth, beautifully organized service.”

“Unfortunately, I had to use this service. Please understand that nobody wants to bury their child. The employees at JP Holley, made this experience less painful for us. 1. They were mindful about our pain and make it easier for us to be involved. 2. The viewing of the body, another painful memory, but JP Holley navigated this like it was their problem. 3. Making suggestions and when they told me they had a surprise for us, they EXCEEDED our expectations. The cover of the obituary was out of this world. I can go on and on about the service from the beginning until the end, and trust me, it was excellent, magnificent, out of this world. I don't ever want to go through this experience again. However, If I have to do it all over again, I would choose hands down JP Holley.”

“Sorry you guys. The location Garners ferry handled my mother‘s attire and I wasn’t pleased. I’m very much aware of skin darkening after sitting over a course of time, but I clearly asked for no over the top make up. My mother had red lipstick in which she would never wear and red fingernail polish on which she never wore. Me and my family were very disappointed at the way she looked. One of her boobs was up to her shoulder and the other one level. Her face was swollen on one side. Instead of them communicating with me to tell me hey something might’ve went wrong. They never communicated with me about that. The location in Saint Matthews was where I had my mother services. The casket that was a rental was awful. Get rid of it. There was no music that I chose for her slideshow played, except when we walked in. And there were no pictures on the screen that I chose to be on the screen when we were having the service. I was not pleased with the way that my mother looked. The first thing I said was no that’s not my mama my family I could hear them saying oh no. I’m glad I didn’t publicize it because I myself was embarrassed. I will say the funeral director was amazing. She was about her business. And you can tell she don’t play. Lol.She always looked amazing so I guess I just expected a little more.”
