You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I’ve had several experiences with Daniel’s over the years. The most recent was in 2018 when I was there for my mom, but my connection to them goes back further. After my brother-in-law passed away, his body remained in the morgue. He had no money, and we had nothing prepared. The cost to move him and have him cremated was far more than we expected. I went to Daniel’s and explained the situation. They were compassionate from the moment I walked in. It wasn’t free, but they worked with us, made it reasonable, and treated us with dignity. My brother-in-law was a disabled veteran, and the thought of him being discarded or forgotten was unimaginable to me. Daniel’s helped prevent that. They honored his life, gave him a respectful ending, and allowed my sister to grieve properly. For that, I’ll always be grateful. Our experience with Daniel’s was the best we could have hoped for during a very painful time.”

“This, by far, was the WORST, DEGRADING experience I have EVER had with a business; and this is one of the most important and vulnerable experiences of one's life! I wish I could say that my dealings with Daniel's was one of support, respect, and sympathy. It was FAR FROM IT! By nature, a funeral home is supposed to be compassionate and/or at least understanding of the horrible hole in people's lives and hearts. Ray, Karen, and EVERY person in the office has shown me EXCEPTIONAL DISREGARD, DISRESPECT, and DECEPTION! I was lied to countless times and just yesterday I was actually LAUGHED at! This was the first time I have had to deal with a funeral home; I couldn't have imagined going through a funeral home was like this! Ray's slimy demeanor struck me like a used car salesman, right from the start! In the worst time of my life, trying to make arrangements for my departed wife, Ray showed little sympathy! BEWARE there is NO PAYMENT PLANS! Ray was quick to shoot me down when I asked about it; and when I picked one of the cheaper urns, he quickly turned to a pissy attitude. Truly, Ray couldn't wait until the check cleared, because as soon as it did, getting in contact with him was nothing short of impossible! One of the many LIES that was told to me was by Ray. He said in his best fake sympathy that I could call or email him ANYTIME. Once the check cleared, he never returned ANY emails; when I would call, he would ALWAYS be "in a meeting" or "in a service"! Karen, his "go to person" gives a whole new meaning to incompetent. When she is there (she is commonly out of the office too), she frequently forgets to return calls; and in my case, forgot to tell me that they had my wife's affects from her cremation. I had to call several times before finally she would say, " Oh. Why yes, it's right here.". If I hadn't have kept up with calling, I still wouldn't have her affects! Then the lying and deception that came with me retrieving her ashes and the death certificate would leave a person's mouth agape! This kind of reaction would be warranted because as important as retrieving her ashes and the death certificate is, Ray and Karen left a new , green associate IN CHARGE! She barely knew her email address, and yet Ray and Karen leaves HER in charge (she would "forget" to return emails, phone calls, and she said she forgot to put in an order to get the death certificate. Come to find out Ray was the one who takes care of that. So there was another LIE that was told! She also was the one that LAUGHED at me.)?! Ray and Karen passes the buck so much, they all had to get paper cuts! When I was trying to get the death certificate, they pawned me off on some young lady who promised she would call me every week, until it was delivered. She didn't give me ONE call! Just lies, excuses, and more lies are the vernacular at Daniel's! The worst part is that Ray and Karen never admit their mistakes or showed me any kind of respect or decency! I was GUTTED by the treatment I got from Daniels! They made my torment off the scale and seemed to revel in my pain! PLEASE, even if you take this review with a grain of salt, DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Check out more than Daniels when it comes to your end of life needs! This is the most devastating time in your life; you certainly don't need Daniel's to throw gasoline on your wounds!”

“DO NOT USE Daniels Family Funeral Services!!! I had pre-arranged that when my father passed Daniels would be handling everything, like they did with my Mom. My father passed, and I was set up with a HORRIBLE person with ZERO personality or empathy/compassion skills named Nancy. If you can imagine, the interaction was so bad that I had to leave, and contact another funeral home to pick up my fathers remains and have the arrangements fulfilled elsewhere. During one of the darkest times of my life, when you look to a company that only has 1 job, to handle funeral arrangements with care, compassion and regard to the grieving families needs, and to be treated so bad you have to leave....STAY AWAY FROM DANIELS FAMILY FUNERAL SERVICES!!!!”
