You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“This place doesn’t even deserve one star. The only reason I give it one star is because Google doesn’t allow me to give it zero stars..My family has used Ric Brown Family Funeral Home for generations — my grandmother, grandfather, and most recently, my mother Jane Watts were all buried here. Sadly, my experience with my mother’s services was deeply disappointing. When I first met with the owner, Tim Brown, he assured me and my wife that all family members would be treated equally and have an equal say in arrangements. That turned out to be false. Tim Brown’s words were deceitful, and his promises meant nothing. In the end, money spoke louder than his word. Despite repeated calls, I was often ignored, and staff never returned my messages. Meanwhile, my sister, who had access to my mother’s bank account, was given preferential treatment simply because she could pay upfront. She was treated like royalty while the rest of us were sidelined and disregarded. No grieving family should have to feel pushed aside or treated as less important because of money. Losing a loved one is already painful, and this funeral home added unnecessary hurt and frustration during one of the hardest times of my life. Because of this, I will never recommend Ric Brown Family Funeral Home to anyone. The way my family and I were treated was unacceptable and shameful. After this experience, no one in my family will ever use this funeral home again. — Richard Watts”

“If I could give less than one star I would. My friend lost his mother recently and she was cremated. Now he's not able to get her remains until the balance is paid off. How can they provide a service and be so heartless. Compassion they lack and I get it service was provided but holding her remains as collateral that's on another level.”

“This funeral home shouldn't be allowed to service any community. They are disgraceful, rude, shady and unethical. Ellie is a very disrespectful person. In the time of morning and grief they should have sympathy and compassion. Not exploit and disrepect families. I hope they never have the chance to treat any other family the way they treated ours.”
